Modern Hanover New City Hall (Neues Rathaus)
New City Hall? Well, as you can see, that hall is not really new but historical. Yet, it's that impressive once you stand in front of the Hanover New City Hall.
It was inaugurated after twelve-year-old boys construction period on June 20th, 1913.
It is a castle-similar building of splendour, which dominates the city center of Hanover.
The building cost amounted 10 million German Marks. It was erected by the architects Eggert and Halmhuber on 6026 beech stakes. The phrase of city director Heinrich Tramm became famous: "Ten million Marks, majesty — and everything bar paid," he announced to Emperor Wilhelm II, when the building had been inaugurated.
The height of the city hall dome amounts to scarcely 100 m (328ft.). In Europe unique is the diagonal elevator that goes up to the dome, where a prospect platform is. In an angle of fifteen degrees, the elevator goes 43 meters up to the dome gallery. There you have a good view over the country.
In the ground floor of the New City Hall you'll find four city models of Hanover Germany, which represent the development of the city.
These models are a public magnet. From that impressive dome-resounds it goes — in the east wing — into the new citizen hall in which smaller meetings and exhibitions take place.
Go to the southern part and you're going to find the Bistro called Der Gartensaal, which invites to culinary specialities from local and international kitchens. In this hall you have an incredibly inspiring view over Maschteich and Maschpark, the park of the twin cities (see above picture?).
By the way, they also offer rooms for holding meetings and celebrations.
New and old Town Hall, next step on our city trip is the Leine Castle, which became a governmental building over time, somehow...
Warmly,
