Dortmund Germany — Green Metropolis of Westfalia
Football (soccer) is an important industry factor for Dortmund Germany.
Its stadium is considered as the Opera House of the Bundesliga (Federal League). Once its football club Borussia Dortmund (BVB) plays a home match in the Westfalenstadion, it's mostly sold out and filled with screaming fans in yellow-black (colors of the club).
Also, the city is known as Westphalia's "green metropolis," even though it's famous for coal mining, steel construction, and beer too. That seems to make everything dirty, but nearly half of the municipal territory consists of waterways, woodland, agriculture, and green spaces with spacious parks such as Westfalenpark and the Romberg Parko. Those parks have been built or reconstructed after the Second World War.
Its Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas market) is one of the largest in Germany. It is host to one of the largest christmas trees in the world, formed by stacking hundreds of trees into the shape of a pyramid.
Travelling through the city without car is very comfortable. Dortmund has an extensive underground, tram, and bus system.
The H-Bahn at the University is a unique hanging monorail built specifically to shuttle students and patients across the university's campus which is now also flanked by research laboratories and other high-tech corporations.
As soon as you are in Dortmund Germany go ahead and buy its TouristCard. With it, you have a bunch of benifits such as FREE use of public transport and FREE entrance in museums and parks. The TouristCard cost 8.90 EUR per person and is valid for two days.
By the way, the Dortmund chess tournament, one of the strongest in the world, is held here annually.
