Cologne City Wall And Its Remaining City Gates
In 1180, the medieval City Wall has been erected and was the largest medieval city attachment of the Roman realm at that time of German nation.
The attachment plant with barrier, ditch and wall had an overall length of 7.5 kilometers (4.7 miles). Cologne people insisted on the fact that this land wall gets, like the "heavenly Jerusalem," 12 enormous gate castles and additionally still 52 military towers as well as further 12 gates turned to the Rhine bank. Oh man... what a creation!
Today, from the former 12 gate castles remained the Eigelsteintorburg, Hahnentor, Ulrepforte, Severinstorburg, Gereonsmühlturm, and the Bayenturm. Three wall sections are to be found at Gereonswall, Karthaeuserwall and Bottmühle.
Also, Cologne's nightlife goes on around its Ringe (nowadays' name for the former City Wall).
Now enjoy your journey along the Cologne City Wall.
